STATEMENT
I love stories, whether they come from books, theater, music, or movies. As a kid, I had a big imagination and this has stayed with me throughout my life, which is probably why I have always wanted to be a writer of some sort. I get a lot of ideas for stories, some good, some bad, but enough that I think my biggest goal in life is to have the chance to tell some of them. There are different things that draw me to each medium, but there is something about film that really clicks with me. When I have an idea for a story, it often comes to me in a visual way. Whatever the situation, regardless of what is happening, some kind of image pops into my head. While visuals or imagery can certainly be recreated in other mediums, the immediacy of film is very appealing to me. The notion that I can take the story and image in my mind, and directly recreate in on screen is what has brought me to this program and to filmmaking. Thus far, I have been able to attempt this twice, in two short films that I made in the video production courses here at Raritan Valley. These were learning experiences and there are things I like and dislike about the final products of each. One is a documentary and the first short film I made here. It is about my sister, an artist, and her artistic process. Essentially an interview, I did my best to make it visually interesting. The second is a fictional short about a girl trying to get out of her hometown and the friend that abandons her in the process. This one was challenging, as I was severely lacking in resources.  The crew for the shoot consisted of me and my two friends who did their best to help me while simultaneously starring in it. It isn’t exactly what I wanted it to be, but I did my best with my limitations, and I am satisfied with that. I hope to do more things like this in the future and hope to get better at it with each try.
