STATEMENT
My name is Gabrielle Taylor and I do video and photography. As an artist and filmmaker, I give myself parameters and adorn them with as much creative energy as I can. I want my content to not only be entertaining, but meaningful. I want all viewers of my photography and video to gain something out of that experience. Through creation, I feel that we can bring infinite perspectives to individuals and groups who might not have considered them. As a child, I remember leaving movie theaters with a floating feeling that I had not yet understood as inspiration. Today, I know that if I experience this feeling, that whatever I just saw really reached me. I strive to extend this feeling to my audience. My career creating film and video has been short, but like all of you, I have been a consumer my entire life. Ultimately, I create to be an active part of the media ecosystem that I have grown up with and want to help mold its direction.

The piece that I am most proud of from my reel is the 5th Layer Documentary. This is the first documentary film that I have completed. I was responsible for the audio, directing, shooting, lighting, and editing of this project and I am extremely happy with how it all turned out. In total, this shoot took three days. I did one day filming as a fly on the wall just trying to stay out of everyone’s way. The next day of shooting was the interviews and was the first time that I had the opportunity to shoot two people in an interview setting with studio lighting, which presented some challenges. On the last day, I made sure to get shots that coincided with the topics we went over in the interviews. I learned a lot about the documentary process while making this film and got to meet a lot of different people while shooting. Overall, I loved being able to depict this unique business and profession.
