BIO
Nicholas Denzer is a 20-year-old sophomore at Raritan Valley Community College. Growing up in Central Jersey, Nick was raised by parents who instilled strong morals, values, and work ethic into him. Motivated to be the best version of himself, Nicholas puts his energy towards self-development. He has been pursuing bodybuilding for the past 5+ years which he credits to shaping him into the confident young man he is today. Learning and progressing in the gym has taught him valuable lessons which he has ultimately applied to greater aspects of life. Taking his ambitions of self-development to the next level, Nicholas founded the Leadership, Growth, & Mindset Initiative, a collaborative group that hosts weekly seminars to discuss goals, ambitions, productivity, and mindset, to help the individuals achieve success in varied avenues of life.
Nicholas’s life took an extreme and challenging turn towards the summer of 2022, when a tumor was discovered in his sinus cavity. After several very emotionally trying weeks, Nicholas and family learned that the tumor was benign. Its official diagnosis was an odontogenic fibromyxoma, an aggressive yet benign tumor that had to be removed. The surgery was immense, as he underwent an eleven-hour fibular free flap procedure, which consisted of the removal of his right jawbone, being replaced by the fibula bone from the leg. As a result, he had to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, chew, swallow, and speak. However, due to his immense work ethic and courage, he continues to prevail through recovery. Nicholas is the embodiment of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. He hopes to study at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received surgery, and plans to study both marketing and entrepreneurship. After his experiences he is eager to become the best version of himself and help others who are battling extreme challenges in their own lives. Nicholas’s life goals are to live with gratitude, inspire and help others, complete an Ironman Triathlon, and win first place at a bodybuilding competition.
STATEMENT
At heart, I am a marketer. I love manipulating an audience to make them feel the emotions that I want to convey, ethically of course. Film is a tool. A means to get my message across in exactly the way I want to convey it. I get the creative liberty to use color, music, sounds, camera angles, and postproduction effects to produce certain emotions. Visually, I am representing my thoughts and feelings to my audience. Using film, I have control over the atmosphere I create. To me this is an immensely powerful tool. My interest is also piqued in entrepreneurship.
I see film, marketing, and entrepreneurship all connected in the bigger picture. I love to leave the audience confused as to what they just saw. If the content in a film is cut and dry, it may be visually pleasing, however it may not be memorable nor thought provoking. I like to leave the audience thinking about what they saw in confusion long after viewing my work. Naturally, I gravitate towards writing and shooting psychological thrillers and horror films. Both these genres are extreme examples of using film to manipulate audiences’ emotions. Personally, I think this same concept is very applicable and common practice in the business world. The idea of creating a product, marketing it, and using film to make people feel a certain way about it is exciting to me, a challenge.
