BIO
Sam Parker has always enjoyed watching movies and television. As he and his friends started to become better at skateboarding, he started recording his friends at the skatepark, then he would go home and experiment with the editing software on his mom’s computer. In high school, he purchased his own computer and began to collect cameras. Through taking television and film classes he realized that this is something he had a passion for and that he wanted to become a filmmaker. What he would really like to accomplish once he’s finished with school is to make a documentary or movie. Sam currently lives in New Jersey, which is within an hour from New York City and Philadelphia, so he’s in a great location for finding work in the film industry.

STATEMENT
With my films, I share my views of the world with my audience. I feel it is important to show my audience the things I’m interested in because it’s a way for my voice to be heard. In my reel, I included parts of short films, part of a documentary, and footage of abandoned places, all of which cover subjects that I care about, but feel other people overlook. Throughout all my work, I make my subjects look authentic. The reason it is important to make people look authentic is because it makes a stronger impression on the viewer and the subject feels more empowered. By capturing the authenticity of abandoned buildings, the viewer is engaged and can see an abandoned building as a work of art. When making a documentary, I want to capture the people and their views. When I made my documentary about Covid effecting artists I thought it would be interesting to see how Covid influenced the creative process. What I like to show throughout all my films is the authenticity of the subject in topics I think get overlooked.
