BIO
Jack Smith is a sophomore attending Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, NJ. Born in Massachusetts to parents who both have worked in the broadcasting industry, video production has been something that has interested him his entire life. By the time he entered high school he had made short films and realized he wanted to pursue filmmaking as a career. Currently, he considers himself to be a video production creator. After graduating RVCC, he plans to transfer to San Francisco State University’s film program, land an internship with a film production company, and further increase his experience in editing and directing.

STATEMENT

I create the work that I do because I want to express my creativity and myself, and I feel that film is the best way to express both. I want my audience to gain an appreciation of cinema as an art form as well as to understand who I am as a filmmaker. I feel this is important so people are able to see how different filmmakers have different styles, and through my work, my style can become clear. I usually like to make short films to express these, but I also occasionally make music videos and other similar projects. The theme of redemption is prominent in my work – I want people to understand that mistakes don’t define who they are and that they can always look at them to learn how to be better in the future.
